Bathing the dog
Today I bathed my dog. This might not seem a huge deal but as my dog is a shih tzu she goes to the groomers on a regular basis and I don’t really have to bathe her as much as some owners might have to bath theirs.
Here is a list of things to get together before you bath your dog:
- Dog towel – don’t use your own bath towels, but start using a towel that is just for the dog
- Dog shampoo – avoid using your own shampoo. Some are very gentle and in theory could be used for a dog, but dog shampoos are designed especially for dog skin. Using products designed for humans can cause problems
- Dog brush/comb – in our case, I need both but get the brush and/or comb to suit your dog’s fur
- Nail clippers – it is understandable if you don’t want to use these or are nervous for the first time but get a vet or groomer to show you the first few times and start using them on your dog when they are young so they get used to having their paws and nails handled. So long as you just clip the very ends of the nails, you’ll be fine
