Beverley Hills Chihuahua
The Americans are obsessed with them and the UK fans aren’t much better. This breed has been made famous by the celebrities who carry them round like a handbag, in their handbag and dress them up in daft little outfits.
Now there is a film released, called Beverley Hills Chihuahua, which took $29 million in its opening weekend so it is the US top movie at the moment.
According to Blatherskite, these rat-like creatures are no better than pitbulls. You wouldn’t think it to look at the little creatures, who do certainly have a rat-like appearance, but as I reported last month, in one survey they came out as one of the most destructive dogs, so it begs the question, why are they so popular? Can anyone shed some light on the matter for me?

Chihuahuas are definitely a big breed contained within a small body. They over compensate for their size with bucket loads of personality. For this reason they need a lot of socialisation and discipline early on, which a lot of people aren’t aware of when they bring their cute little bundle of fluff home with them until problems develop further down the line.
Chihuahuas are an incredibly infectious and lively little breed who tend to bond very strongly to one person. They are clannish in nature, and for this reason prefer their own kind and/or dogs their own size. They will quite happily take on a rotti without hesitation. For this reason its important to keep a close eye on them when out on walks or injury can result. This is a fact i’ve experienced first hand.
I’ve two little cream and white long coats myself (Ruby & Bella)who I could not live without. Their intelligence never fails to astound me. If its a faithful little lapdog you require and you have a lot of time, energy and love to devote, then a chihuahua is a breed worth considering.
However, read up and do your research before hand so as to be sure you know what to expect when it comes to these little dogs and remember every dog is different! Just because Mary round the corner has the most perfect little chi you’ve ever set eyes on does not mean yours little bundle of joy will turn out so.
Chihuahuas are best suited to homes without children as despite appearing robust, they can be easily injured. Chihuahuas are very easy to care for, they don’t need groomed, for this reason their coat is easy to maintain. They loves walks, but do not require excessive exercise. My two burn up more energy than enough running around the house and our big enclosed garden playing. Although nothing will amuse them more than a day trip to the beach or a forest park – and such trips are just as beneficial for the owners!
Its easy to be biased when you own and become attached to a particulat breed. I’ve owned and worked with numerous dog breeds throughout the years, and where everyones preference will be different. The chi has turned out to be the ideal breed for me and one which I hold dearly in my heart! I’ve two at the minute and i’ve a sneeking suspicion they will not be my last!
