Many people are aware of sponsoring puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind, but there’s another charity that could do with a few puppy sponsors - Dogs For The Disabled.
It takes twenty months for the labrador and golden retriever puppies, such as ten week old Roo pictured here courtesy of Dogs For The Disabled, to learn how to become a disabled person’s best friend and helper. They learn to open doors, press buttons on pedestrian crossings, help take off socks or jacket sleeves, empty the washing machine and many other helpful skills.

According to the Kennel Club (KC), the simple answer is that your bitch should be at least one year old before she is mated.
However, bitches have their first season at different times - usually between eight and ten months old - but if your bitch is a late developer her first season many happen after she is one year old. That means you could mate her on the first season. As a general guideline many responsible dog breeders say that you should wait until at least the second season before mating. Choke collars are also sometimes referred to as pring or prong collars. They are slip collars made of chain links, usually metal, and when the collar is pulled, the links squeeze the flesh around the dog’s neck.
Personally, I think it looks cruel and I hate to see a dog on a choke collar, however, they have their purpose. They aren’t designed to be used everyday and there should be no need to use a choke collar on a small dog, unless the dog has a real behaviour problem and NEVER used on a puppy. Recently, my mum bought a new car - a Mitsubishi Colt. Nice car but just one annoying thing.. that repeated beeping noise when someone isn’t wearing their seat belt. Whenever the dog gets in the car, the beeping sets off so the only way to stop it is to fasten the car seat belt.

Before I answer this question, I should probably point out that despite the guidelines offered by the Kennel Club, you should always take into account the health and welfare of your bitch. If she doesn’t recover properly from a litter then please don’t breed her again. Make sure she gets enough time off between litters.
