Today I came across the National Dog Tattoo Register website. This is a site that encourages people to get their dogs tattooed, like the one you can see here (the tattoo is just inside the ear).
Last weekend, I went to my local pet shop to pick up a few necessities for my dog now she’s pregnant and due any day and whilst I was there, I looked at a few dog kennels. I’ve never actually bought or built a dog kennel (I can’t imagine why anyone would want to build their own but apparently some nutters have too much time on their hands!), and I was amazed at the range available.
I was driving down the motorway yesterday and a car very nearly swerved right in front of me! What was the reason for this? Well, as I passed it would seem that the driver was getting distracted by the spaniel bouncing around the car. I don’t know whether the dog was feeling carsick or what, but dogs can be a big distraction and very dangerous in a car, even with a passenger, never mind with a lone driver without passengers!
Irresponsible owners really annoy me. In cars in particular, it’s not just a case of keeping the dog under control but dog guards can also Read the rest of this entry »
If your dog is microchipped, then you have a better chance of finding your pet if he is lost. The microchip is a small electronic chip, the size of a grain of rice, that is injected under the skin of the dog between his shoulderblades. When you get your first dog, you might be amazed to discover such a wide range of dog collars. Some of these are listed below: Read the rest of this entry »
This video is great – talk about bossy, opinionated dogs! Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending which way you want to look at it), my shih tzu isn’t quite as opinionated as these dogs, in fact, she’s remarkably quiet. Must take after her owner…

Well, this weekend was time to prepare for the birth of the puppies, as Bailey’s due next weekend. Shih tzu puppies don’t grow too big by the time they’re ready to leave for their new homes at the age of eight weeks old, so here’s how I build our puppy pen (with the help of my dad, naturally)
A standard litter size for a shih tzu is 3 to 5 puppies, although they can have more. This is Bailey’s third litter and the last two have been five and seven puppies respectively, so I’m hoping she’ll have six to eight pups this time. Read the rest of this entry »
