Glass Balancing Dog Does It Blindfolded!

You may recall back in February that I wrote an article telling you about a border collie dog called Sweet Pea who was filmed on the Oprah Winfrey show setting a world record for the only dog to balance a glass of water on her nose whilst walking upstairs!

Now, Sweet Pea and her owner Alex have taken it to a whole new level. Watch this video to see Sweet Pea balancing a glass of water on her nose while walking upstairs – blindfolded! Read the rest of this entry »

Dog Sneezes on Command

This cute little dog – I don’t know whether he/she is a llasa apso or a shih tzu – really sneezes on command! She’s gorgeous, so if you have a minute to spare, watch this… have a good weekend.

Puppy Parents Wanted in Cheshire

Golden Labrador Puppy ParentingKatie Cross has a medical condition that confines her to a wheelchair and means her joints dislocate very easily, such as when picking things up from a floor or shelf!  Since September last year, thanks to a Cheshire charity called Canine Partners, Katie has a new best friend called Bryon, a golden labrador dog.

Bryon helps Katie by picking up items, opening cupboards and doors, pressing small buttons like in a lift or switching lights on and off.  He also helps Katie to undress, picks up shopping from supermarket shelves and much more.  Since having Bryon, Katie has gone from dislocating her shoulder, rather painfully as you might imagine, up to seven times a day down to none at all.

However, now Canine Partners, based in Helsby, Cheshire is overrun with applications from other disabled people who want their help and the only reason Canine Partners can’t help them is Read the rest of this entry »

List of Dog’s Life Expectancies

Not the greatest subject and possibly a little bit morbid so I apologise now, but this is actually a factor you should take into account when you take a dog on.

In general, smaller dog breeds seem to live longer on average than bigger dogs as you can see from the list below (list courtesy of Pets.ca website)

Average Dogs Life Expectancy (years)

Afghan Hound (12.0)
Airedale Terrier (11.2) Read the rest of this entry »

Yoga for Dogs?

Doga - Yoga for dogs

Now I’ve heard of everything! Now we have ‘doga’ – yoga for dogs. Yes, Doga classes have started in America. Owners work with their dogs to get them into the required positions (so no, you can’t just drop your dog off and pick him up later) and the owners also have to chant at the dogs (how this helps the dog I’m not sure).

The owner will Read the rest of this entry »

Dancing Dog

I don’t know if anyone else has seen the recent advert for Britain’s Got Talent, but it shows a collie dancing with its owner. The dog was very good, but if you want to see a real dancing dog, watch this Read the rest of this entry »

Does Your Dog Have His Own Blog?

MaxI know I mention my own dog Bailey on this site quite a lot but at least I haven’t gone to the extreme of getting her her own website yet.  Unlike Max the Golden Retriever who does have his own blog.

Yes, every few days Max himself posts Read the rest of this entry »

Dog Summer Tips

Dog Travel waterbottleShortly (we hope!) it will be getting hotter as summer approaches.  This can be a dangerous time for dogs whose owners don’t make provisions for them in the heat.  Here are our top tips to help your dog stay safe and happy throughout the summer:

Walk your dog early in the morning and late at night when temperatures are cooler

Use doggie boots to protect their feet from hot surfaces like tarmac

Watch for dehydration – remembers dogs can’t sweat so watch for panting and make sure fresh water is available at all times.  Carry a bottle of water when you’re out.  You can buy special travel bottles that open up into a little bowl, like the one pictured

Dogs cool from the bottom up – so spray water round their feet and legs.  If you’re outside, put out a kiddie’s pool or lay down a wet towel.  The wet towel will do more good Read the rest of this entry »
