A springer spaniel named Bentley has been saved with Viagra. The dog was suffering from lungworm, which was blocking his pulmonary arteries and causing his heart to fail. This can be treated in humans with Viagra and so Bentley’s quick thinking vet, Ben Harris, gave Viagra to Bentley and it saved his life.
Luckily, Bentley has suffered no embarrassing side effects and having been neutered at a young age has no sex drive.
The thing is, his owner David Roach, will need to give Viagra to Bentley for the rest of his life if he is to live a normal, healthy life. I can just imagine the chemist’s face when Mr Roach tries to explain that the Viagra is not for him but for his dog!

Meet Hubble. Hubble is known as Britain’s ugliest dog bless ‘im and he needs a good home.
His plea was published in the Metro earlier this week, as he was found abandoned in a wood just two weeks ago. He is a eight year old terrier and needs somebody to make him smile again.
According to the Metro, he is in good health despite having suffered an injury as a puppy.
He’s currently living at Leeds Dogs Trust where a spokesperson said that he needs someone who can ’see past his looks’ – no kidding!

Many dogs have an innate fear when it comes to Bonfire Night and so it is important to keep them indoors and help them as much as possible.
In some areas, the fireworks can begin a week or so before the actual Bonfire Night and continue for a week or so afterwards too. I’m quite lucky because my shih tzu isn’t bothered at all. In fact, last year she was quite content to sit on the doorstep with me and watch our neighbour’s fireworks go off, but I think she’s one of a kind like that.

From Saturday, vets are once again allowed to charge a fee for their prescriptions. The three year ban that used to prevent this, ended on Friday.
Although pet owners may fear overcharging, vets have been warned to watch their pricing.
The RCVS Prsident, Jill Nute commented:
“The Office of Fair Trading, (OFT) will monitor the reintroduction of prescription charges and has asked the RCVS, as the regulatory body for vets in the UK, to monitor complaints that relate to prescription charges. Our Guide to Professional Conduct for Veterinary Surgeons advises vets only to make reasonable charges for prescriptions, which affords the public protection against excessive or inappropriate costs.”
Personally, I’m quite worried about this. How does everyone else feel?

This week, the weather has been awful. It seems as soon as the clocks went back, the heavens opened and since then we have had nothing but rain and snow. With weather like this, I prefer to stay in, put the fire on and watch my little dog settle down in front of the fireplace and chill out. In fact, one of my favourite photos of my shih tzu is of her lying in front of a fireplace, gazing into the flames. It’s like something off a Christmas card.
It is times like these when it is difficult to leave your four legged best friend behind in the morning, or even to get out of bed at all, so why not take this time to have a week away on a dog friendly holiday?
According to easier.com Travel, one of the best places for a dog friendly holiday is Dorset. With national parks and beaches, I’m sure it’s great in the summer but what about in the winter?
They sold me with the idea of Cobweb Cottage in Winfrith Newburgh, which welcomes dogs and not only that, but it could be like home from home with a great inglenook fireplace for your dog to settle in front of. I know my dog is happy wherever she is if there’s a nice great warm fire to curl up in front of.
There are plenty of dog friendly cottages all over the UK (both with and without the real fireplace), so a week away could do both you and your best friend some good.
