Dog Walks 70 Desert Miles To Find Owner
Dogs are amazing – make a friend of your dog and he’ll be a true friend for life.
US Major Brian Dennis from Florida was in Iraq when he found a mixed breed dog, abused and abandoned. An Iraqi had cut the dog’s ears off ‘to make him look tough’. During the next four months, Brian fed the dog and wrote home to his mother about his new friend and his abuse. Brian named the dog ‘Nubbs’.
Within the next four months, they became friends and even slept together to stay warm during the freezing cold nights. Then one day Nubbs was found injured. He’d been stabbed with a screwdriver and Brian started to nurse him back to health. However, Brian’s squadron was moved 70 miles away and he had to leave poor Nubbs behind.
To Brian’s astonishment, two days later Nubbs hobbled into the camp – having travelled 70 miles in an 18 degrees heat whilst still recovering from his injury!
(Now that’s what I call true love – show me a man that would do that!)
When the forces realised Brian had a dog, they told him he had four days to get rid of it or he would be put down. After everything Nubbs had been through and the devotion he’d shown, Brian couldn’t bring himself to let him go so he wrote home and started an email campaign to save him. Within two days, the campaign had raised $3000 and Nubbs was flown back to the US where he’s staying with a family until Brian returns.
