Dog wheelchairs
I’ve discussed in past articles about dog wheelchairs, because although dogs can live longer thanks to modern medicine, good pet insurance and the like, there still seems to be few companies out there that can actually cater for elderly dogs in this fashion.
Sure, there are plenty of companies manufacturing and selling wheelchairs for humans, but I’ve only found two companies, one US and one UK, that sell wheelchairs for dogs.
Is it because, despite the fact that a dog is meant to be man’s best friend, when it comes to forking out money to help our dog we’d rather keep our money in our pocket? What thanks is that for all the years of companionship that a dog has brought to his owner?
I also wonder, and I don’t know if anyone can help me out with this, do dog insurance companies cover items such as wheelchairs for dogs or is it considered easier and kinder to put a dog out of his so-called misery and have him put down? If so, that seems a poor show. I do understand that wheelchairs can be expensive and that not everybody could afford to purchase a wheelchair for their dog so perhaps I’m being a little harsh but I cannot believe that for a nation of dog lovers, we can only support two wheelchair producing companies.
