Dogs on Facebook

It was only a matter of time really, but one group of dogs now have their own page on Facebook.

But this is no ordinary group of dogs - these are abandoned dogs looking for a new home.  The Scruffy Angels animal welfare group put the page up and the dogs have already got more than 30 friends.  Volunteers are saying that if these dogs do not find new homes soon, then they will have to be put down.

Manager at Scruffy Angels, 28 year old Kirsty O’Sullivan, in her 3 bed home in Hornchurch, said: “There are more than 30 dogs at the moment staying with different volunteers.  I’ve got around six in my house, but they’re coming in so fast that by the end of the day, I’ll probably have 10!  We’re desperate. We’re at saturation point.  We’ve got all different types of breeds, from small, pretty dogs to staffs, to big labradors.

“With the credit crunch at the moment, some people are having to get rid of their pets. For financial reasons they just can’t handle it.  And some breeders are being greedy and getting rid of breeds that aren’t profitable.”

The volunteers look after the dogs in their own home, which is proving difficult, so if anyone can help, whether by taking on a dog or making a donation, please contact Kirsty on 07737 907 111.
