Hero Dog Saves Kittens
A dog in Australia has saved a box of kittens from a fire. Leo, a Jack Russell cross, did not escape the fire with his family of four and their other dog, but instead chose to stay in the kitchen, standing guard over the box of kittens.
The family in Melbourne escaped the fire and when the fire brigade arrived, they went into the flaming house and found little Leo standing firm guard in the kitchen despite the thick smoke.
When they got Leo outside, he lost consciousness and stopped breathing. He was given oxygen and a heart massage to revive him. The kittens also needed treatment.
Ken Brown, a fire service commander, said yesterday: “Leo wouldn’t leave the kittens, and it nearly cost him his life.”
The family had no smoke alarm and their little girl, aged eleven, needed treatment for smoke inhalation. Other than that, everyone was fine and the police are looking into the cause of the fire.
