Retirement Home Opens For Dogs

retired old dogFollowing on from my earlier article wondering about living with an elderly dog, of course he’s bound to take up more of your time as he grows older.

It’s unfortunate but not everybody has the time to look after an elderly dog, especially if ill health is a factor but that doesn’t mean that it’s right to put the dog down or to abandon the dog at a shelter where he is unlikely to be adopted.  Your dog has given the best years of his life, why should he be abandoned in his time of need?

In Tochigi in Japan, the world’s first dog’s retirement home opened just a few months ago.  For just $800 a month, your dog can live in the Soladi Care Home with round-the-clock veterinary care and daily vitamins.

The home can take care of 20 dogs at any one time and amazingly, the home ‘employs’ puppies that play with the older dogs, helping to keep them young.  Their goal is to make their final years safe and happy.  Wouldn’t we want this for ourselves and our family, so why not for our beloved dogs?

People already leave their estates to their pets, so how long will it be before we see the UK’s first retirement home for dogs?
