Toby nominated for award

Toby is a West Highland terrier who has been nominated for the doggie version of the People’s Pride of Britain awards, also known as the prestigious national Dogs Trust Honours awards, in the ‘doggie devotion’ category.

Toby is 15 years old and has lived with his owner, Fiona, for almost all his life.  21 year old Fiona suffers from cerebral palsy, vertigo, Meniere’s disease and epilepsy and as a result often suffers from fits or falls.

Without any special training, Toby has developed a special yapping type of bark to alert Fiona’s mum when something is wrong.

Dogs do develop special bonds with their owners in ways that other pets don’t seem to be able to and his skill is potentially life saving for Fiona.  Fiona’s mum, Wendy, said she is very proud of both of them.

  1. Alison Says:

A friend of mine had a Border Collie named Davy. Norma is deaf and he used to bark once for mum (Jean), twice for dad (Stuart) and three times for me (Alison) when we came to the door. He had a different bark for other visitors and for the phone. He was great, he lived till the ripe old age of 17. He was well loved.
