Want A Dog? Consider A Greyhound

Greyhound DogWhen considering giving a home to a dog, many people don’t consider greyhounds, perhaps because people automatically think of them as racing dogs.

Contrary to popular opinion, greyhounds don’t need a lot of exercise and even many retired from racing are generally happy with just two walks on the lead each day.

Greyhound Rescue West of England (GRWE) is a registered charity formed in 1991.  It looks after and rescues abandoned or neglected greyhounds from all over the country, as far as Scotland and of all ages from a few weeks old to older, retired greyhounds.  Many racing greyhounds retire quite young and many owners then look to rehome them, so sadly there are always many greyhounds looking for a new home.

GRWE offer a home checking service and will visit your home to discuss your requirements and check you are compatible with the personality of the dog you wish to adopt.

GRWE do not sell their dogs or make a charge for adopting one, despite the fact that it costs them £300 on average to look after each dog until adoption.  However, they receive no government support or support from the racing industry so all donations and fundraising are gratefully received.

I’ve heard that greyhounds are good dogs to get as pets because they’re essentially ’sprint’ animals without much stamina. They don’t require as much exercise as you might think.

    Nice tip!
